Wisconsin Dells, WI 8/26 - 8/28/00

We left George and Josie's house about 11:30 a.m. and arrived at the Dells around 4:00 today. We are staying at the Bonanza RV park which is in the middle of the "strip" in Wisconsin Dells. It is a nice park which is close to everything and is very quiet. I took the picture on Sunday (8/27) after the weekend crowd had left and as you can see it is not crowded.

When in Wisconsin Dells one of the must-do trips is to take a ride on the "Original Wisconsin Dells Ducks" to the Lower Dells of the Wisconsin River. These are the WWII Ducks that have been used here since after the war. We were asked if we wanted a wet entry or a dry entry into the water. He warned us there would be a wave over the bow and a tidal wave over the rear transom, where we were sitting. We chose the wet entry and Susan was still wet an hour later. She was sitting on the isle and took the brunt of the tidal wave on her butt.

We also took a boat trip on the Wisconsin River to the Upper Dells. Portions of the river narrow to about 20 feet wide. This picture was taken on the upper portion of the river where it widened out.

The picture on the right was taken in Witches Gulch. The boat docked and we walked up the gulch about 1/4 of a mile.

We also took advantage of one of the many miniature golf courses in the city. We haven't played this for a number years and we had a blast.

On Monday night we attended Tommy Bartletts Water Show. It was fantastic. The stunts they did on water skis, wake boards and hang gliders were absolutely incredible. The water show was the first part and they had a number of very entertaining stage acts. The finale consisted of a dancing waters and laser show capped off by fireworks. We highly recommend going to the evening show.
