Day  17 - Peace River, AB

Yahoo!! We had clear sky and temperatures in the upper 60's for the travel briefing at noon.

Then. we had 'table duty' to replace the picnic tables we had appropriated from other sites.

But wait, what is this? It appears that Claire, Wayne and Skeeter are doing a little redecorating at Lake Hal.

Oh, Oh, it looks like Lake Hal has been 'flocked' by flamingos!

We were scheduled for a 35 mile boat ride down river to an island where we were to enjoy a steak dinner. However, the operator came by this morning and told us the river was too jammed with floating debris to allow safe operation of his boats.

I love someone who will err on the side of caution. As you can see in the previous picture, there is some very large debris heading down river. So, in place of a 35 mile boat ride, we are getting a 5 mile bus ride to take us to our steak dinner. Works for me!

We were driven to a local park next to the Peace River. Soft drinks and water were available for free, while other refreshments could be had for a nominal charge.

The tables were set up for us in the open park so we all sat down and enjoyed our drinks before dinner.

Meanwhile, chef Murray Anderson was starting to prepare the steaks.

Wow, look at the size of those beauties! He also had chicken and salmon cooking on the side for those who prefered fins or feathers over beef.

They are just about ready. Yes, he did prepare steaks the way you liked them; from still mooing to cooked like a hockey puck! Most of us liked them in between.

Nobody went away hungry! Ceasar salad, macaroni salad, baked potato, home-made fresh baked beans, rolls... you couldn't fit it all on one plate.

Seems like the chatter at the tables quieted down after the full plates were brought to each table. Yum-Yum!

But wait, there's more.. now for the fresh strawberry shortcake and whipped cream!

Yes indeed, we have a bus full of happy people heading back to the campground.
