| Day 43 - Rocky Harbour, NL |

Bob and Sue Schmidt took the 10km hike back to Bakers Brook Falls. |

Even though it is so late in the summer, there is still a great deal of water coming over the falls. |

Bill and Susan Shallbetter took a short hike to Southwest Brook Falls. The trail passed through this lovely forest setting. |

Brook Falls did not have much water running over it, and we were unable to photograph most of the falls as they were below us. But hey, it was a wonderfully clear, crisp, sunny day for a hike in the woods. |

This photo looks out over Bonne Bay. |

Bonne Bay with the small town of Woody Point on the left. |

We stopped at the Gros Marne Discovery Centre. |

It is a fairly new building with a wonderful series of interactive panels dealing with the geologic history of the park and the present-day challenges the park has to meet. |

This is the view from the porch of the Discovery Center. We are looking out over South Arm Bay. |

A view looking toward the hills from the town of Woody Point. |

The Benders and the Morrells got up at 6:30 AM to hike the Lookout Trail. It is not a long trail, at 5km, but the trail climbs 350 Meters (or 1158 feet), The park literature says to plan 2 to 3 hours to hike the loop. |

The vista from the top of Lookout Trail. |

Today seemed to be the day for moose sightings and a number of people reported spotting them: Carl Bender took this picture of a bull moose lying in a pasture on the way up Lookout Trail; |

and Bob and Sue Schmidt took a photo of this cow moose.
|

A few of us hiked the Tablelands Trail. It is a 4km round trip hike taking you over some of the oldest rocks in the park. |

This is a closeup of the white smudge you see in the photo on the left. Yes indeed, that is snow. |

Mike Morrell looks over the terrain. |

This is a Pitcher Plant. It is one of those plants that attracts insects and digests them. (photos by Carl Bender) |

This beautiful picture of Berry Hill Pond was taken by Ed Rzepka. Thanks for sharing this with us all, Ed. |

Tonight after our travel briefing, we had a pot-luck dinner. |

Wow, do we have some talented cooks on this caravan. So much so that Susan Barack has been creating a cook book from all the recipes collected from caravan members. |
